How to check your toilet for leaks:

• Check around the base of your toilet for signs of water damage. For example any vinyl flooring that is rolling up on the edges or black or white stains.
• To check for a soft floor, stand straddled over your toilet and rock back and forth on each foot. If your floor feels spongy, it is probably rotting or weakened.
